I stand for the strange and lonely

I have no clue what I'm doing, but I like Frozen?

Okay, really time to go.

I have reached that point of no return.

It’s okay, though. You guys are awesome.

Seriously.

Especially the ones who have stuck around.

I’m a very, very damaged person. And I think sometimes, there’s too much damage to be repaired. And all I’m doing now is taking. Taking attention. Taking time. Taking space.

But know how much I care about you. ♡

My stories are yours. The one thing I’m really proud of.

I liked Elsa best. Guess I can say that now.

It’s not fun being Elsa. But I love her with all my heart.

I wish I could have met Georgina.

Thanks, guys.

Character drawings of searlait's character Prince Knut from her Shards series. He appears here as a teenager, though this is what I imagine he would look like for his late teens to early twenties. He’s a fashionable fellow, with some big hair.

His haaaaaaaaair! I love it, I love it, I love it! Hehehe, Knut is such an absurd little lothario… And you’ve captured it! Very self-secure, VERY pompous, very, very, very, very vain. Ha!
I love these portraits so much! So much. They’re just perfect. Seeing characters brought to live just… it gives me shivers. ♡

EMILY, YOUR WISH IS MY COMMAND.

So, I’ve been thinking this over the past few days. Given I’ve only got my own experiences with anxiety and my Psychology A Level (which, luckily, included stress and anxiety disorders), take some of what I’m saying with a pinch of salt.

BUT Elsa’s powers and their link to anxiety making your hands and feet cold.

Now, we all know Elsa’s powers react to her emotions. When she’s happy the magic is swirling and beautiful, when she’s angry it’s jagged and harsh. And when she’s anxious, it’s out of control.

Like most people, I think, I immediately thought Elsa’s powers would be out of control with every emotion, but now I’ve thought about it, she was incredibly anxious every time it appeared without her command. After hurting her sister, at the window, at the coronation, FTFTIF reprise, escaping the prison. All times when she was incredibly scared and anxious—and I can only assume in that scene where she’s twelve that she was anxious too.

I’ve said for a long time that I’ve found Elsa’s powers in the FTFTIF reprise to be the best representation of a panic attack I’ve ever seen in media. And to see it in children’s media is fantastic to me. I also love the fact that the blast of magic that hits Anna comes from Elsa’s chest. Because anxiety and panic attacks make the heart race—I’ve felt like my heart was going to stop at the height of panic attacks, like when all the magic sucks back into Elsa and blasts out. And my hands and feet go incredibly cold, which is a sign of an over active fight or flight response, one of the theories behind anxiety disorders.

The blood leaves the places furthest from the heart (aka, the hands and feet) so it can be pumped to the muscles to either run from what’s making you panic, or fight it. The worse it gets, the colder you feel—and in Elsa’s case, the more her powers show themselves. It does tend to be the hands that lose blood first, hence why Elsa’s powers leave her hands before her feet, they tend to come later. Because you need your feet for running. The wind that picks up around Elsa could also link to another anxiety symptom—hyperventilating. The body’s attempt to get more oxygen in the blood stream so it can run.

Everything about Elsa is a classic case of anxiety. And the poor girl is left in a time period that would not understand. Were she anything but royalty, she would probably have been sent away, or hidden from the public eye even more than she already would. Royalty over the years have always had a sort of free pass when it came to mental illness. I think about Elisabeth of Austria, a woman who most likely suffered from anorexia and anxiety, and she was heralded as the most beautiful woman of her time, with many trying to emulate her and just making matters worse.

Elsa would just be lucky that she would have Anna.

But overall, I do like to think that Jen and Chris thought about this link, and if they didn’t, it’s still a brilliant thing, if you ask me.

This kind of turned in a ramble BUT HEY.

Filed under yes yes yes yes yes this is brilliant and i've always wondered about elsa's magic getting uncontrollable and it only happening when she's afraid and you've summarized that really well like a lot of people have her losing control during intimate encounters but while i could see that happening if she's super anxious i don't see it happening if she's enjoying herself random nevermind but yeah this is wonderful amazing and the physiology of fight or flight that totally makes sense for elsa the cold in her extremities her heart her physical reactions manifesting as power this is WONDERFUL this is amaziiiiiiiiing i love this so much i need to keep it forever because this is a perfect succinct summary of elsa's powers and how they reflect her psychological stsate and i love it so much so so so much
